Faro Airport Hotels: Closest Stays, Shuttles and Tips

By the Portugal Travel Tips team · Updated 3 November 2026

Landing late, or flying out at dawn? Faro airport sits on the edge of the city, so even hotels in the centre are only about 10 minutes away by taxi. Here are the closest hotels to the terminal, which ones list a shuttle, the best picks in Faro town and on the beach, rough prices and how to get there.

Quick answer: the closest is Hotel 3K Faro Aeroporto, on the airport road about 1 to 2km from the terminal. Hotel Mónaco is a 7-minute drive away, and booking sites list a free daytime shuttle on request. For dinner and a stroll, stay in Faro town, near the marina. For a swim, Hotel Aeromar is on Praia de Faro, about 5 minutes from the airport. Próximo bus 16 links all three areas.

Do you need an airport hotel in Faro?

Often not. The centre is so close that a hotel in town works for most flights, with the old town and plenty of restaurants on the doorstep. Book right by the airport if you fly before about 7am, land after midnight or want the shortest ride with tired children. The nearest hotels are in Montenegro, a quiet residential area with little to do.

The closest hotels to Faro airport

1. Hotel 3K Faro Aeroporto

The nearest hotel to the terminal, on the airport road (EN125-10) in Montenegro. Booking sites put it between about 900m and 2km away. Some guests walk it, but it’s a main road, so take a taxi with luggage or in the dark. It’s a simple three-star with balconies, an outdoor pool and a 24-hour front desk. Breakfast runs from 7am to 11am, for about €12 extra.

2. Hotel Mónaco

A four-star in a quiet corner of Montenegro, which the hotel describes as a 7-minute drive from the airport. It has an outdoor pool, a children’s pool, free parking and a 24-hour reception, and the snack bar is open from 3:30pm to 11:30pm, handy after an afternoon landing.

3. ibis Faro Algarve

A budget two-star on the way into the city, about 2km from the old town and 5 to 10 minutes from the terminal by car. It has an outdoor pool, parking, a 24-hour reception and breakfast from 7am.

Which hotels have an airport shuttle?

Don’t count on one. None of the hotels near Faro airport publishes a shuttle timetable on its own website, unlike the big Lisbon airport hotels.

  • Hotel Mónaco: booking sites list a free shuttle from 8am to 7pm, on request, but the hotel’s website doesn’t mention it. Confirm it when you book.
  • Hotel 3K Faro Aeroporto and ibis Faro Algarve: listings disagree, so ask the hotel. A taxi takes only a few minutes.
  • Hotels in town: some arrange paid transfers, so ask when you book.

Hotels in Faro town

Staying in town puts you about 10 minutes from the airport by taxi, and within walking distance of the old town, the marina, the train station and the bus station where bus 16 starts. It’s the better choice if you have an evening to spend. See things to do in Faro, or browse places to stay in Faro.

  • Hotel Faro & Beach Club: a four-star on Praça D. Francisco Gomes, facing the marina, with a rooftop terrace and its own beach club on Praia de Faro.
  • AP Eva Senses: a four-star on Avenida da República, opposite the marina and a short walk from the bus station.
  • Stay Hotel Faro Centro: a simple, good-value hotel just off Rua de Santo António. Breakfast starts at 6:30am, and there’s a 24-hour snack service.
  • 3HB Faro: a five-star in the centre with indoor and outdoor pools and a spa. The priciest stay in town.

Arriving by train? Faro station is a short walk from all four. See Lisbon to Faro. For a resort instead, the five-star Conrad Algarve in Quinta do Lago is about 20 minutes from the airport by car.

On the beach: Praia de Faro

Praia de Faro is a long sandy beach on the Ilha de Faro, reached by a narrow bridge. Hotel Aeromar is a small, older three-star with 23 rooms, across the road from the sand, with a restaurant and bar. Booking sites put it about 3km, or 5 minutes by car, from the airport. It doesn’t list a shuttle, so ask the hotel.

Two catches. Planes pass low overhead, so expect daytime noise. And bus 16 only serves the beach between about 7:20am and 10:30pm, so for an early flight, book a taxi the night before.

Prices checked November 2026. January is usually the cheapest month and August the dearest. Faro hotels also add a tourist tax of €2 per person per night from March to October and €1 from November to February, for guests aged 16 and over. See Portugal’s tourist tax.

Getting there from the airport

  • Taxi: the rank is outside arrivals. Faro town takes about 10 minutes and usually costs about €10 to €15, more at night and at weekends. The Montenegro hotels are a shorter ride.
  • Uber and Bolt: both pick up from a signed point and are often cheaper for short hops. See Uber vs Bolt vs taxi.
  • Próximo bus 16: links Faro bus station, Montenegro, the airport and Praia de Faro, every 30 to 60 minutes or so. The airport to the bus station takes about 16 minutes. Under the timetable in force since 18 August 2026, the first bus leaves the bus station at 5am (at the airport by 5:17am) and the last leaves the airport at 00:10. Pay the driver in cash, a few euros, and check the front sign, as some buses head for the beach.
  • Pre-booked transfer: Welcome Pickups meets you at arrivals with a name sign at a fixed price, which helps after a late landing.
  • Hire car: most rental companies have desks or shuttle buses at the airport. See car rental in Portugal.

Heading straight to the resorts? See Faro airport to Albufeira, Lagos and Vilamoura.

Tips for early flights and late arrivals

  • Tell the hotel your arrival time if you land late, and check the front desk is open 24 hours. Smaller places often stop check-in around midnight.
  • Book a taxi the night before for a pre-dawn flight. The bus doesn’t run before 5am.
  • Breakfast: most hotels start at 6:30am or 7am, so ask for a breakfast bag.
  • Allow time at the airport: the EU’s EES border checks can mean long passport queues for non-EU travellers. See Portugal entry requirements.
  • A spare day? Take the boat to Ilha Deserta or explore the Ria Formosa.

Plan it: Landing late? Book a fixed-price airport pickup, compare hotels in Faro or compare car hire for the rest of the trip.
