Algarve Water Parks: Zoomarine, Slide and Splash and More
When the kids have had enough of the beach, the Algarve’s water parks are the perfect day out, with giant slides, wave pools, lazy rivers and, at Zoomarine, dolphins and sea lions. Here’s a guide to the main Algarve water parks and how to choose.
Quick answer: the main parks are Zoomarine (Guia, near Albufeira), a marine park with shows, rides and pools, plus Slide & Splash (Lagoa), Aquashow (Quarteira) and Aqualand, which have big slides and wave pools. Most open from late spring to autumn. Buy tickets online to save time. See water park tickets.

Why go
A water park is a good break from sand, sun cream and sea that can feel cold to small children. The parks are all in the central Algarve, within about 30 to 45 minutes’ drive of most resorts, so any of them works as a day trip. They’re also handy on very hot days, when the beach is crowded, or on a windy day when the sea is rough.
The four parks are quite different. One is really a marine park with animals and shows, one has an indoor section that runs all year, and two are classic summer slide parks.
The parks
Zoomarine (Guia)
Part marine park, part theme park: dolphin and sea lion presentations, aquariums, rides, pools and a beach area. It’s a full day out and great for younger children. It usually has the longest season of the outdoor parks: the 2026 season, the park’s 35th, opened on 12 March and added a new rollercoaster. Plan your day around the show times, which are listed at the entrance. See Zoomarine tickets.
Slide & Splash (Lagoa)
One of the Algarve’s best-known water parks, with lots of slides for all ages, near Carvoeiro and Portimão. It opened in 1986, so 2026 is its 40th season, and it has added a new 17-metre slide tower as part of an expansion. It has a mix of high-adrenaline slides for teenagers and gentler pools and play areas for little ones. It’s a good choice if you’re staying in the western or central Algarve. The 2026 season started in early April, with longer hours in July and August.
Aquashow (Quarteira)
Big slides and a wave pool near Vilamoura and Quarteira, plus a water rollercoaster. Aquashow also has an indoor water park, opened in October 2024, which runs all year with heated water and is a rare option for a winter or rainy day. Its tallest indoor slide drops from a 26-metre tower. There’s a hotel on site too.
Aqualand (Alcantarilha)
Classic water park fun with slides and pools in the central Algarve, near Armação de Pêra. It’s smaller than the others and usually the cheapest, with a shorter summer-only season, normally from June to September.
How to choose
- Toddlers and young children: Zoomarine, for the animals, shows and gentle rides.
- Teenagers: Slide & Splash or Aquashow, for the biggest and fastest slides.
- Out of season: Aquashow’s indoor park, or Zoomarine in spring and autumn.
- On a budget: Aqualand, and look for online and late-afternoon tickets, which are often cheaper.
- Staying in the west: Slide & Splash in Lagoa is the closest. From Lagos it’s about half an hour by car.
- Staying in the east: Aquashow in Quarteira is the nearest, about 25 minutes from Faro.
Where the parks are
- Zoomarine: on the N125 at Guia, a few minutes inland from Albufeira.
- Slide & Splash: on the N125 between Lagoa and Estombar, near Carvoeiro.
- Aquashow: on the edge of Quarteira, close to Vilamoura.
- Aqualand: on the N125 at Alcantarilha, between Albufeira and Armação de Pêra.
All four are close to the toll-free A22. See getting around the Algarve.
Tips
- Season: outdoor parks generally open from around May or June to September or October, with some opening earlier. Check the dates and hours before you go.
- Arrive early in July and August to claim a sunbed and beat the queues.
- Height limits: many big slides have minimum heights, so check before you promise a ride.
- Sun protection: bring high-factor sunscreen, hats and water shoes. Hot paths can burn bare feet.
- Transport: most families drive, as the parks have large car parks. Some parks and tour operators run transfers from the main resorts, so ask your hotel.
- Food: parks have cafés, and some allow picnics, so check the rules.
- Lockers: rent one for phones, keys and wallets.
A water park day plan
Get there when the gates open and head straight for the most popular slides before the queues build. Break for lunch around noon, then spend the hottest part of the afternoon in the lazy river or wave pool. Most parks close in the late afternoon or early evening, which leaves time for dinner back at your resort.
At Zoomarine, the day works differently. Check the show times at the entrance and plan the rides around them. Dolphin and sea lion presentations fill up, so arrive at the stands 15 to 20 minutes early in summer.
When to go
June and early September are the best months: warm enough for a full day in the water, but quieter than the school holidays. July and August are hot and busy, especially at weekends, when local families visit too. In spring, Zoomarine and Slide & Splash are usually open while the sea is still cold, and in winter Aquashow’s indoor park is the only option. See the best time to visit the Algarve.
